Nick Malrechauffe
Located at the corner of Main Street and Lakeside Avenue in West Orange, New Jersey, one will find the Thomas Edison National Historical Park. The site has served as a museum since 1962, but was once the home and laboratory of one of the greatest inventors of all time, Thomas Edison. His estate, Glenmont, as well as the brick buildings that once served as laboratories, still stands on the twenty-one acre site.
What struck me about the monumental site was the fact that this one location here in NJ is home to some of history’s most important, life-changing inventions. No one stops to think the motion picture camera, perfected light bulb, and phonograph all originate in this state. If you think about it though, it makes sense since NJ is located in the northeast where most industries were at the time. That lead me to learn how truly significant NJ is to America’s past and its development.
