9/11 Memorial – North Brunswick, New Jersey

Melissa Kaye

The 9/11 Memorial in North Brunswick, New Jersey consists of steel beams from the World Trade Center held up by granite hands and surrounded by granite walls engraved with the names of those who lost their lives. This monument provides much more than a place to remember September 11, 2001; it is a place for the remembrance of everyone who perished on that tragic day in history, and for those memories to live on for future generations.

The location of this monument surprised me. Because North Brunswick is a relatively small town, I did not understand why a memorial of such importance would be located in such a place. However, after interviewing someone involved with the planning and construction of the monument, I learned that the community felt that it was important to commemorate a major event in our country’s history and remember those who perished.
