Love Park

Donna Fitzpatrick

Love Park is located in Center City, Philadelphia, on 16th Street and JFK Boulevard. While Love Park is not a monument in the traditional sense of the word, I believe it could be seen as one due to its impact on the City of Philadelphia, and its ability to influence cultural movements in the city. Like any other sculpture or artwork, Love Park can be interpreted and viewed in an array of ways.

What I view as the most valuable aspect of Love Park is the sense of unity that it brings to Philadelphia. As a citizen of Philadelphia, I have been to Love Park numerous times but I never really took the time to actually think about the importance of the sculpture. I was struck by its simplicity, and the way in which the simplicity of the monument is what makes it available to all citizens of Philadelphia.
